we replace steam boilers
Replacement and maintenance of steam boilers is a job you need a reliable plumber for.

The two main types of boilers seen.

Boilers can be an extremely versatile and excellent form of heating for your home or business.

Steam boilers actually boil the water to the point that it turns to a vapor. Steam vapors travel in pipes and go to radiators which heat up until the thermostat is satisfied. The radiators are made out of cast iron and retain the heat well. Once the thermostat reaches your desired setting the radiators cool off. When they cool off the steam turns back to water which drains back to the boiler. Then process is repeated. Steam boilers are more prevalent in older homes.

The other type of boiler we see and work on is Hydronic also known as “hot water boilers”. Hydronic systems are totally filled with water. The water is heated up by the boiler and circulated through the system. The radiators get hot and cool off from the air moving across them. The cold water is pumped back to the boiler to be re-heated. Hot water boilers are more versatile then steam. With a Hydronic system you can add radiant heat (heated floors).

Benefits of Hydronic hot water boilers.

There are some good perks of having Hydronic heating systems for your compared to other forms of heat.

  • Forced hot air (ducts) dries out the air from being heated.
  • Hydronic boilers have radiators which heat the objects in the room not the air.
  • Water is better at transferring heat than air is and can be more efficient than a duct system.
  • There are no air filters to change on a hydronic system. Which is ideal for having a low maintance system.
  • With a hot water boiler it is possible to have heated floors. We have also even done heated garage floors.
  • Boiler systems have the ability to make less noise than a ducted system.
  • You can also use the boiler to make domestic hot water. With the proper setup you’ll never run out of hot water.
Regular maintenance of your boilers controls
Regular maintenance of your boilers controls can prolong your boilers lifespan and help with energy efficiency.

Common issues on boilers.

Although boilers are very reliable form of heat sometimes they do need some repairs. Common things we see wrong with boilers are:

  • Faulty thermostats and controls
  • Circulator pumps that are not working properly.
  • System leaks that lead to poor circulation of heat.
  • Expansion tanks that have deflated
  • Defective gas valves
  • Broken low water cutoffs ans aquastat controls.

Luckily most repairs to boilers are not horribly difficult for a plumber like Wolyn Services to figure out. We repair, install, maximize your comfort and efficiency on your boiler system.

Can I control the temperature in each room with a boiler?

Zoning a boiler system is absolutely possible with the proper setup. Adding zoning for a boiler helps increase comfort in each room. On a new custom home it is easy enough to pipe in zoning for each room. The easiest way to add zoning is with proper piping and zone valves.

How long does a boiler last?

Boiler systems when properly designed and with maintenence can easily last 20-30 years. Usually a properly designed system has a much longer lifespan than that of a forced hot air system. Also boilers generally use less energy and need fewer repairs.
